Rudolf Bultmann - Eine Biographie

[Rudolf Bultmann. A Biography. 2nd edition.]

Published in German.

Rudolf Bultmann was one of the few independent thinkers in Protestant theology in the 20th century. He exhibited great skill in combining historical reconstruction with a topical interpretation of the New Testament, and tried to overcome the crisis of historicism with the hermeneutic concept of existential interpretation. With his controversial program of demythologization, he demonstrated the advantages of Christianity's claim to truth in comparison with the modern concept of reality.

To mark Bultmann's 125th birthday on August 20, 2009, the time has come to study his amazingly consistent journey through life and his way of thinking. With the aid of previously unused material from the archives, Konrad Hammann places Bultmann's life and works in the context of his time, of the theological and interdisciplinary discourses and of the political conflicts of the epoch.
