Philipp Jakob Spener: BriefeHerausgegeben von Johannes Wallmann
The letters written by Philipp Jakob Spener (1635–1705), the founder of German Pietism, are excellent sources of cultural and church history. They provide an insight into the Pietist movement and are also a unique source of information on many sectors of intellectual and social life beyond religion and the church. Since the hand-written material is scattered throughout archives and libraries all over the world and some of the letters in old prints are incorrect and for the most part do not give the name of the recipient, there had up to now been no access to these sources. This edition makes the letters accessible for the first time. The letters have been arranged in chronological order and provided with introductory registers and a critical and commentarial apparatus. Detailed indexes also facilitate the access. |
