Karl R. Popper - Gesammelte Werke

The purpose of this edition is stated exactly in the title: It is a collection of works and writings which Karl Popper himself regarded as completed and which to a large extent has been left in the publication contexts which he specified. Thus the collections of esssays as compiled by Popper himself have in principle been retained, but duplications have been avoided and adaptations to the English editions have been made in those places where these were continued.

This is a reading text, as a rule in the final version authorized by Karl Popper. The translations have been checked, and additions to previous versions have been marked.

Each volume contains an afterword, written by the editor of the volume, which describes the intellectual context of its origins and outlines the history of its reception. The version on which the volume is based, any previous versions along with the history of their editions and translations as well as the special editorial features of each volume are provided in a separate bibliographical appendix.

Each volume has an index of names and subjects. Those volumes whose previous editions were already widely available and which have often been quoted also contain a page concordance so that references from secondary literature can be easily found.

The volumes can be purchased invidually, to the extent that this is permissible under publishing law. Suscribers to the complete edition will be charged a lower price. There will be a parallel student edition of those texts relevant for students.
