Grundlegungen der Soziologie

Eine Theoriegeschichte in systematischer Absicht. Band I

[Foundations in Sociology. A Comparative Study in Competing Research Programs. Volume 1.]

Published in German.

On completion, this study will consist of two volumes. In the first volume, Wolfgang Schluchter explains the multiple constitution of sociology at the time of its conception. He examines three competing research programs, which he calls sociological Hegelianism (Karl Marx), sociological Kantianism (Émile Durkheim) and Kantian sociology (Max Weber). The author compares these research programs with regard to the philosophical background, the methodology, the basic concepts and the diagnosis of the present. This comparison proves the lasting relevance of a Weberian research program. The second volume will deal with the challenge to this research program posed by a sociology based either on system theory or language philosophy.
