Die Schmalkaldischen Artikel

[The Smalcald Articles.]

Published in German.

Written and dictated in December 1536 by Martin Luther, the Smalcald Articles were discussed and signed by everyone present at a conference attended by theologians in Wittenberg at the end of 1536. This is a confessional and educational document of the Wittenberg Reformation during the period of the Smalcaldic League, which was included in the Lutheran confessions of faith under the title Schmalkaldische Artikel during the second half of the century of the Reformation. Luther explained the basic positions of Christian faith on the basis of the "main article" about Christ and of justification for a planned ecclesiastical council. Werner Führer bases his commentary on Luther's approach and gives a clear explanation of the direction of his theological reasoning.
