David Käbisch, Johannes WischmeyerDie Praxis akademischer ReligionslehrerbildungKatechetik und Pädagogik an der Universität Jena 1817-1918. . Mit einem Forschungsausblick von Michael Wermke [The Practice of Training Religious Education Teachers.]Published in German. Catechetics as a branch of Practical Theology was an area in which future Protestant clergy were trained as teachers of religion. In their case study, which is based on a large variety of contemporary sources, the authors show that catechetics was by no means centered around dogmatics and outdated from an educational point of view. For 100 years, the Catechetic Seminar at the University of Jena (founded in 1817) was characterized by its liberal theology and the way it trained teachers of religion, which was open to many innovations in the field of didactics.
