Die Attraktivität früher christlicher Gemeinden

Die Gemeinde von Korinth im Spiegel griechisch-römischer Vereine

[The Attractiveness of Early Christian Communities. The Corinthian Community as Reflected in Greco-Roman Associations.]

Published in German.

The newly established Christian communities were perceived as associations by people in the first century and thus were seen as competition for those associations which had already been established in the individual cities. Numerous phenomena, such as for examples Paul's correspondence, can be interpreted against this backdrop and were viewed in this context during the past years. For the first time, Eva Ebel presents the most important texts concerning Greco-Roman voluntary associations together with a German translation and a full commentary. This provides a solid basis for comparing the structure of these associations with early Christian communities and for examining the attractiveness of these communities, which the author has done, using Corinth as an example.
