Medienrecht

[Media Law.]

Published in German.

In this textbook, Axel Beater presents media law as a homogenous and independent branch of the law. He sees press law, broadcasting law and the telecommunications law as all being part of one homogenous field and focuses on the areas in which these three intersect. In this way, he gives a clear picture of the common fundamental issues and the ways in which these branches of the law are related. It is the mass media in particular who have special functions and duties in the democratic industrial society (functions in the areas of democracy, the economy and integration), which basically are identical for the press, broadcasting organizations and telecommunications. Thus mass media are bound by different standards than those of other corporations. The author also uses numerous legal decisions and individual cases in dealing with this subject, since media law is in a special way judge-made law and case law.
