On 1 March 2001, the Brussels II Regulation took effect in the member states of the E.U. (with the exception of Denmark). Its objective was to accelerate and simplify the recognition and enforcement of decisions concerning family law from other member states. Susanne Dornblüth studies this objective and analyzes the improvements and disadvantages of the regulation. She focuses particularly on the procedural aspects and the obstacles to recognition of the Brussels II Regulation by giving a systematic comparison of the new regulations with the procedures which had been necessary up to now and the previously valid reasons for rejection according to international treaty and German national law law. |
