In articles written by well-known authors, the JuristenZeitung deals with fundamental issues and current developments in the law and in legal practice. The JZ reports regularly on decisions by the supreme court and the annotations it provides facilitate the classification of significant new decisions. The JuristenZeitung in a ranking of law journals
As part of a research project entitled "Forschungsprojekt JuRaf," two independent scholars of the University of Hamburg carried out a survey of 248 professors and staff members of 45 law faculties in the spring of 2009 and established a ranking list on the basis of their results.

On the list of general law generals dealing with more than one field of law, the JuristenZeitung (JZ) was ranked first by a wide margin.
