This volume describes how an encounter with the city of Rome developed into a perception of Rome as shown in theology, in intellectual life and in the artistic life of Protestantism. The period studied begins in the late 18th century, since it was at this time that the real encounter with Rome became more important, and ends with the years surrounding the First World War, which was a significant turning point.   (read more...)
